Veneers are generally fabricated from ceramics, being very thin layers of restorative material placed over the front surface of the tooth. Traditionally the reduction for the surface is no more than 0.5 - 0,7 mm. Fabrication:

During the first visit the dentist removes the upper part of the surface to create space for the future veneers. The imprints are being made and the temporary plastic veneers are placed over the teeth. The ceramic veneers are then fabricated in the dental laboratory and later bonded to the teeth. Today the technique is rather reliable and the veneers can last 10 – 30 years.
