Dr. S.S Sidhu, retired as Prof. & Head of the Department of Dental Surgery, AIIMS, New Delhi in 1993. He was Honorary Dental Advisor to Govt. Of India and Central Govt. Nominee to the Dental Council of India. Dr. S.S. Sidhu has rendered distinguished services in the field of Dental Surgery and has enjoyed the distinction of being the Honorary Dental Surgeon to the President of India. He was responsible for setting up Dental Department of the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi in 1960. The expert touch of his fingers has brought broad smiles to thousands of faces over a period of 50 years.
Dr. S.S. Sidhu graduated in 1956; post graduated in Orthodontics in 1966 and had Doctoral Research Fellowship in 1971-72 at the Dental Institute, University of Oslo, Norway. At the AIIMS he was instrumental in developing the Dental Department from scratch to the level of Master’s and Doctorate degrees. He exhibited keen interest in Clinical and Applied Research. His work on Tooth Replantation, Maxillofacial Prosthesis and Cleft Palate Orthodontics drew wide acclaim.
An expert to a number of research committees, member of Board of Studies of Universities, he was a WHO fellow to U.K and Denmark and took part in numerous conferences and seminars both in and outside the country. He is Scientific Editor of Pierre Fauchard Academy (India section) and on the Editorial Board of several other journals. He is former Director-Principal, Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of the Dental Sciences and Research in Amristar between 1993-1999. Thereafter, he was Dean, College of Dental Surgery, Dharan, Nepal.
Dr. Sidhu won several honours and awards, among these being the Hony Medal by the International College of Oral Implantologists, USA, M.N Indian Council of Medical Research, Dr. B. C. Roy National Award by the Medical Council of India, Vocational Award from Rotary International District 3070, Plaque of honour from USA. He was also the President of Indian Orthodontic Society, President of Indian Society for Dental Research. He undertook study tours to several countries like USA, CANADA, UK and Switzerland. He has 160 Scientific publications to his credit.
Special interests in Clinical Dentistry are:
- Diagnosis of complex diseases of Oro Facial complex and suggesting treatment for the same.
- Maxillofacial surgery - Surgical extraction of Impacted teeth, routine extractions, performing biopsy, flap surgery, implant placement.
- Geriatric Dentistry - Looking after the needs of senior citizens performing fundamental procedures as extractions, gum surgery, and replacing missing teeth with partial or complete dentures.
Dr Dilpreet Sidhu graduated from prestigious Manipal University in the year 1992. She performed excellently during her graduation at Manipal. She did Residency at the Department of Dental Surgery at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi.
After the residency at AIIMS she was instrumental in starting the Dr Sidhu,s Dental and Orthodontic Clinic at Vasant Kunj In 1994. She has participated in number of advanced courses in Dentistry.
Her areas of Interest in Clinical Dentistry are:
- Pediatric Dentistry – Problems of the dentition of a child.
- Endodontics – Root Canal Treatment
- Conservative Dentistry – Restoration of badly decayed teeth
- Periodontics – Gum treatment
Dr. M.S. Sidhu graduated from Dr. Ahmed Dental College & Hospital, Calcutta University in 1987. He topped in Calcutta University in three of the four University Examinations and won Honours and Gold Medals in all the four professionals years. He was awarded the prestigious Dr. R Ahmed Gold Medal for the best graduate for the batch of 1987.
Following Graduation he successfully competed in All India Entrance Exam and got admitted in the single seat of Orthodontics (superspecialty in dentistry) at prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. Dr. Sidhu received the prestigious Shri Mohan Wig Gold Medal for the Best Clinical Research work done at AIIMS as a post graduate for the year 1990 presented by Shri Shankar Dyal Sharma, The President of India.
Dr. J.G. Kannapan Best Thesis Award in Orthodontics was presented in 1991 by Indian Orthodontic Society. He has published more than 15 national and international papers under the able guidance of Dr. S.S. Sidhu. He presented large number of papers at various conferences for which he was awarded Best paper award more than four times.
Dr M S Sidhu was awarded membership of prestigious National Academy of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. He is one of the pioneers to have obtained Diplomate in Indian Board of Orthodontics in 2006 for achieving excellence in clinical Orthodontics. Dr Sidhu is actively involved in teaching at both graduate and postgraduate level in the super speciality of Orthodontics. He was initially the Principal and now Director Post Graduate Studies and Professor and Head in the Department of Orthodontics in SGT Dental College, Hospital and Research Institute, Gurgaon. There are large numbers of post graduate dental students registered under him learning and mastering the art of Orthodontics. He is examiner and paper setter at the post graduate level for large number of Universities including AIIMS, New Delhi.
His special interests in clinical Dentistry are:
- Orthodontics – Treating both children and adults with dental and facial deformities using state of the art appliances.
- Aesthetic Dentistry – Smile Design, tooth whitening.
